All it takes is a walk somewhere between 4:40 and 5 down the streets of our neighborhood. The leaves may be down or if it’s an oak, brown and rustling. There’s a mist to the air when there’s no mist. Maybe a fog of sorts before sunset. Then the brilliant colors of a fall sunset hit the sky with such an intensity that it takes your breath away. Only for a moment then it becomes calm. The porch lights are golden and the leaves show the shadows of those lights of the block. Eyes move from the sky to those things familiar. That’s what this book means to me. Sounds of dusk given into the colors and sounds of a fall evening after sunset.
